horses at dun daraich stables

Facilities

Dun Daraich Stables occupies approximately 28 acres of Glen Finart.  The main livery yard consists of stables, hay/straw storage areas, feed room, tack room, toilet and utility area.  There is a further block of stables approximately 90 yards from the main yard which can be used for isolation purposes or as required by short term visitors.

Training facilities consist of an outdoor sand arena (40mx60m), Portable Round/Lunging Pen and large multi functional sand/gravel areas.

Approximately 2-3 acres have been turned into gravel/sand areas that provide dry stand/feed areas from October through winter until April, this allows most of the equines, depending on preference or hardiness, to live out in all but the very worst of the west of Scotland weather avoiding the inevitable mud of winter grazing.  It also allows those at risk of Laminitis all year round turnout without the risk posed by grass.  At other times the areas are multi functional.

The remaining acreage provides grazing from April to October and is electric fenced into four main fields and 3 smaller areas.

Boundary to the roadside is formed by mature hedge with access via gateway which is otherwise kept closed.

The training facilities are available for use by all liveries and for booking
by outside individuals or groups.

[ask about special group rates and loyalty card scheme!]

Facilities and sevices for the sick/injured or convalescing horse are also available such as the gravel and sand areas particularly suited to the management of the laminitic horse or pony allowing all year round turnout without grass.  These areas can also aid horses in the transition from working shod to unshod.  Seek the advise of your vet, farrier or trimmer if you think a change of physical environment may be beneficial to your horse's recovery from injury.
