Days of Reflection with Elaine Allan
Began in July 2008 and are still popular! – *NEXT WORKSHOP SCHEDULED 10th July 2009*
The idea for this workshop came whilst discussing with a friend our most recent experiences with our horses, I was reminded of my time as a student social worker, working with people, when I was required to reflect on my experiences by describing them, along with my thoughts and feelings, in a reflective diary in order to develop and improve my practice.
It struck me that whilst we were not keeping reflective diaries we were infact using the same techniques to reflect upon our interaction with horses to evaluate and improve ourselves as horsepeople.
The reflective diary is such an effective tool in other fields so why not in horsemanship? As a means of developing and improving our horsemanship but also to record our achievements and successes.
The Day of Reflection focused on how best each individual could use their own reflective diary to develop knowledge and skills and to gain insights into themselves, which could then be put into practical use in their horsemanship.
One participant wrote afterwards:
“the thing that most fitted me on the Day of Reflection with Elaine was really to take the quiet honest time to look over the day’s going on amid myself. If we don’t do this often how can we tell what is really going on inside our horse’s. The diary is another great tool to help us and our horses“
*Workshop*
The Day of Reflection Workshop will focus on how best we can use a reflective diary to develop our knowledge and skills and to gain insights into ourselves, which we can then put to practical use in our horsemanship.

Dun Daraich Trainers/Instructors
Lynda Addis, *Carrie Daly and Mary McLarty joined Morag Higgins as favourite trainers and instructors visiting Dun Daraich.
Lynda’s extensive experience and knowledge across the disciplines as a BHS Accredited Riding and Pony Club Instructor instils confidence and vibrancy in both horse and rider that really brings sparkle to her lessons.
Mary visits on a monthly basis and uses Dun Daraich facilities as a base for sessions with riders and their own horses on ridden or ground work issues. Mary will also visit you and your horse at home if preferred.
Morag Higgins – Equido One Day Courses, Lectures and Assessments leading to Certificated Lantra Customised Award.
(See Morag’s website for full details along with her articles featured in Equi-Ads)
Morag has been a constant and regular visiting trainer, instructor and source of much inspiration and hilarity! She is great with children and adults alike and we continue to have her visit on a regular basis to give lessons and advise on any horse related problems or should that be human related problems our horse’s were encountering – she really is a mine of information, knowledge and good sound practical solutions.
*Carrie who has always been based in Fife (and yes did travel nearly every weekend and during holidays to work with her own horse during the 2 years she was at livery at Dun Daraich!) has since taken her horse nearer home so is not so readily available for lessons but watch this space for her next visit!
